Definition of a KSD Volunteer
A volunteer is a person who gives their time and talents towards a specific job, task or goal to benefit the Kansas School for the Deaf for which there is no financial compensation or expected financial gain.
Policies and Procedures
Volunteers will need to:
- Print and fill out the volunteer application
- Mail it and a copy of your Drivers License and Social Security card to Volunteer Coordinator/ Related Services at the address indicated.
- Pass a background check.
What you can expect after you turn in your application:
- Once the application is received the Volunteer Coordinator attempts to match the potential volunteers skills and interest with a current need on campus. You will receive an email or letter letting you know if there is a current match or if we will keep looking for a match and notify you at a later date.
- Once a match is found a background check is completed.
- Upon passing the background check the volunteer completes a volunteer orientation and meets the staff person they will be working with and contact information is exchanged.
- The volunteer is then able to begin their volunteer service. This process may take up to one month or longer depending on need.
Screening and Security
KSD will conduct a background check on each volunteer before they can start.
Each volunteer will:
- Pass a background check.
- Report any infractions of the law where there has been a citation issued or an order to appear in court to one of the Volunteer Coordinators.
- Please report any concerns about volunteer issues promptly to your supervisor or one of the Volunteer Coordinators.
Volunteer Conduct, Dress and Attitude
Volunteers are asked to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the school environment. We are role models for students in conduct, dress and attitude. If you have any questions about conduct, dress or attitude the volunteer should discuss it with their supervisor.
